Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Hyperpyron (Gold, 26 mm, 4.16 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. Bust of Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls furnished with six groups of towers. Rev. X/M / ΔЄC/ΠΟ/THC - O/Γ[...] Emperor kneeling slightly to right, being presented by Archangel Michael to Christ enthroned slightly to left and holding scroll in his left hand; to left, traces of legend; to left and right of Christ's head, IC - XC. SB 2242. Some graffiti and scratches, otherwise, very fine.
